Mission Accomplished –
Lastweekend, volunteers from the three Stanstead Schools finished grading the 2080 pounds of Royal Gala apples that will be delivered to the two elementary schools over the next five months, beginning today. The project was the brainchild of Stevens Orchard owner Harvey Stevens and he was happy that the volunteer pickers and sorters, many of whom came from Stanstead College’s Community Service program, were able to surpass the project’s goal of 2000 pounds.
“It was a great community project that all three schools, the students, parents and even grandparents, can be proud of. The students will get free apples and they helped us pick our apples. Everyone was a winner,” commented Mr. Stevens. “We’re looking at making this community apple picking a tradition every year,” he added.
