Col­lege closes suc­cess­ful sports sea­son with assem­bly

Hav­ing en­joyed a great end of the ath­letic sea­son, par­tic­u­larly in soc­cer, Stanstead Col­lege paid trib­ute to its top ath­letes at its Fall Ath­letic Assem­bly, held in Pierce Hall Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 9.

Six mem­bers of the se­nior boys soc­cer team, un­de­feated in ETIAC play, re­ceived Ma­jor S awards, in­clud­ing this year’s Bobby Moore Tro­phy win­ner, Ryan Smith of Stanstead East, Que. Coach Gra­ham Chan­dler de­scribed this vet­eran player as some­one who cares pas­sion­ately about the pro­gram and prob­a­bly one of the most ver­sa­tile play­ers on the field.

A sec­ond Ma­jor S went to goal­keeper Sean Scrib­ner of Stanstead, Que. who played nearly ev­ery mo­ment of ev­ery game and took on ex­tra morn­ing train­ing to im­prove.

A Ma­jor S also went to Thomas Wenzel of Wolk­ers­dorf, Aus­tria, a key de­fender who ended up scor­ing the over­time goal that cap­tured the Spar­tans’ ETIAC cham­pi­onship. Coach Chan­dler said that Thomas has the abil­ity to play at a higher level.
