College closes successful sports season with assembly
Having enjoyed a great end of the athletic season, particularly in soccer, Stanstead College paid tribute to its top athletes at its Fall Athletic Assembly, held in Pierce Hall Wednesday, November 9.
Six members of the senior boys soccer team, undefeated in ETIAC play, received Major S awards, including this year’s Bobby Moore Trophy winner, Ryan Smith of Stanstead East, Que. Coach Graham Chandler described this veteran player as someone who cares passionately about the program and probably one of the most versatile players on the field.
A second Major S went to goalkeeper Sean Scribner of Stanstead, Que. who played nearly every moment of every game and took on extra morning training to improve.
A Major S also went to Thomas Wenzel of Wolkersdorf, Austria, a key defender who ended up scoring the overtime goal that captured the Spartans’ ETIAC championship. Coach Chandler said that Thomas has the ability to play at a higher level.
