Bal­anced at­tack leads Rouge et Or over Men’s Bas­ket­ball

Abal­anced at­tack led the Laval Rouge et Or over the Bishop’s Gaiters, 86-59, in Que­bec univer­sity bas­ket­ball league last Fri­day night at the PEPS gym­na­sium in Que­bec City. Six Rouge et Or play­ers scored in dou­ble fig­ures, most no­tably a dou­ble-dou­ble from Boris Hadz­imu­ra­tovic. The Bos­nian scored 13 Re­sorts As­so­ci­a­tion, Canada West Ski Ar­eas As­so­ci­a­tion, Cana­dian Ski In­struc­tors’ Al­liance, and the Cana­dian Snows­ports As­so­ci­a­tion. points and grabbed 13 re­bounds for the home side, who led from wire to wire.

Laval (6-8, 3-6 CIS, 1-1 Que­bec) ran out to a 25-14 first-quar­ter lead, and broke the game open with a 12-0 run to open the sec­ond pe­riod. The Rouge et Or led 50-24 at half­time, and by as many as 33 points in the game. Eti­enne Labrecque led the Laval at­tack with 14 points, with Hugues Ryan and Olivier Le­feb­vre scor­ing 11 each, and Thibaud Dizut­ter and Chris­tian Des­lau­ri­ers-trot­tier chip­ping in with ten.

The Gaiters (5-7, 5-4 CIS, 0-2 Que­bec) were led by On­nex Black­wood (Scar­bor­ough, Ont.), who had a dou­ble-dou­ble with 14 points and 12 re­bounds. Mitchell Pier­man (Perth, Ont.) scored 12 points in his first ca­reer start, while Mike An­drews added 11.

Laval out­shot the Gaiters 43% to 32%, in­clud­ing go­ing 40% from the three-point line. Laval also out­re­bounded Bishop’s 39-31, and scored 20 points off Bishop’s turnovers.

The Gaiters are next in ac­tion on Fri­day, Novem­ber 25, coin­ci­den­tally also at Con­cor­dia. Tipoff for Fri­day’s game is set for 8 p.m.
