Late run sinks Women’s Basketball at Laval
The Laval Rouge et Or used a late 13-1 run to defeat the Bishop’s Gaiters, 76-65, in Quebec university basketball action last Friday night at the PEPS gymnasium in Quebec City. Jannie Jacques made a pair of free throws to give Laval a 65-64 lead with 5:16 left, and the Rouge et Or held Bishop’s without a field goal through the final five minutes of the game. The game was tight until Laval’s closing run, featuring 11 ties and 21 lead changes.
Laval (6-3, 6-3 CIS, 2-0 Quebec) was led by double-doubles from Elyse Jobin and Marie-pascal Nadeau. Jobin scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Nadeau scored 20 and had ten boards. The only other Rouge et Or player in double figures was Chanelle St-amour, who came off the bench to score 14.
For Bishop’s (5-7, 5-6 CIS, 1-1 Quebec), Eloisa Katz (Ra’anana, Israel) led with a career-high 19 points, along with six rebounds. Jessy Roy (Val d’or, Que.) chipped in with 12 points and a teamhigh three assists. Laval outrebounded Bishop’s 46-32 and outshot the Gaiters 38% to 35%. The Gaiters are off until Friday, November 25, when they also visit Concordia. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
