Late run sinks Women’s Bas­ket­ball at Laval

The Laval Rouge et Or used a late 13-1 run to de­feat the Bishop’s Gaiters, 76-65, in Que­bec univer­sity bas­ket­ball ac­tion last Fri­day night at the PEPS gym­na­sium in Que­bec City. Jan­nie Jac­ques made a pair of free throws to give Laval a 65-64 lead with 5:16 left, and the Rouge et Or held Bishop’s with­out a field goal through the fi­nal five min­utes of the game. The game was tight un­til Laval’s clos­ing run, fea­tur­ing 11 ties and 21 lead changes.

Laval (6-3, 6-3 CIS, 2-0 Que­bec) was led by dou­ble-dou­bles from El­yse Jobin and Marie-pas­cal Nadeau. Jobin scored 22 points and grabbed 13 re­bounds, while Nadeau scored 20 and had ten boards. The only other Rouge et Or player in dou­ble fig­ures was Chanelle St-amour, who came off the bench to score 14.

For Bishop’s (5-7, 5-6 CIS, 1-1 Que­bec), Eloisa Katz (Ra’anana, Is­rael) led with a ca­reer-high 19 points, along with six re­bounds. Jessy Roy (Val d’or, Que.) chipped in with 12 points and a teamhigh three as­sists. Laval out­re­bounded Bishop’s 46-32 and out­shot the Gaiters 38% to 35%. The Gaiters are off un­til Fri­day, Novem­ber 25, when they also visit Con­cor­dia. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
