members of Alexander Galt High School’s student council have been busy as elves in the past few weeks running a Can-o-thon to collect food for the school’s Christmas Basket campaign. This year, the imaginative student council turned the annual non-perishable food collection into a friendly competition, pitting the boys against the girls.

All the students were invited to the school’s gym, last Tuesday afternoon, for the announcement of the winners: the boys! “The boys brought in a total of 763 non-perishable food items and the girls brought in 382 items, for a total of 1145,” commented Clement Moliner-roy, the president of the student council. “And that’s only from the students. We have lots and lots of ‘neutral’ cans and we also receive a lot from the school’s Talent Show, where students had to bring a can to enter! The real winners of the Can-o-thon are the families in need,” added Clement.
