Sanctions Still Looming

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Madeline Mulholland Stanstead

Themunicipal council meeting of December 5th was eight days ago and still Mr. Wayne Stratton has not been contacted to know the outcome of the Mayor’s public threats to sanction him on breaching confidentiality when he allegedly leaked a council document to a third party. The document in question pertained to a $25,000 donation the town has awarded to the Pat Burns Arena. The party to whom Stratton allegedly leaked the information was Border Hockey President, Dave Dubois. In an ironic twist, Mr. Dubois claims he first spoke to the Mayor on the topic of the Arena deal, and only later with Stratton. Mr. Dubois claims the information was leaked to him from a source other than a council member. Mr. Dubois had a conversation with Stratton only after speaking with the Mayor on the subject. According to Mr. Dubois, he mentioned the deal to the Mayor, who did not deny the deal existed and tried to change the subject. Later that day Mr. Dubois mentioned it to Mr. Stratton, who did speak in general terms about the deal, but only after Mr. Dubois demonstrated he had knowledge of the deal.

The Stanstead Journal spoke with Councillor Jody Stone on this subject, and in relation to the pending sanctions. Mr. Stone stated this was not the first time Stratton had leaked Last Friday, a driver from Vermont ended up in the ditch along the 143 in Stanstead East. Nobody was hurt in the accident.
