Maine woman takes speedy Sunday drive
Awomanfrom Maine, driving a black Toyota Rav4, failed to stop at the Derby Line Port of Entry on Sunday morning at around 8:45 as she tried to cross into Vermont from Quebec. U.S. Customs and Border Protection called the state police when the vehicle failed to stop, resulting in a twenty-two mile high speed chase that included the accused trying to push blocking police vehicles off the road with her own vehicle. The pursuit ended with the woman being captured on Eagle Point Road, a dead end, in Derby.
Forty-six year old Kimberly Saunders faces charges of attempting to elude police, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and driving while under the influence. Federal charges resulting from the investigation with U. S. Customs and Border Protection may also ensue.
She remains in custody at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport.
