Maine woman takes speedy Sun­day drive

Awomanfrom Maine, driv­ing a black Toy­ota Rav4, failed to stop at the Derby Line Port of En­try on Sun­day morn­ing at around 8:45 as she tried to cross into Ver­mont from Que­bec. U.S. Cus­toms and Bor­der Pro­tec­tion called the state po­lice when the ve­hi­cle failed to stop, re­sult­ing in a twenty-two mile high speed chase that in­cluded the ac­cused try­ing to push block­ing po­lice ve­hi­cles off the road with her own ve­hi­cle. The pur­suit ended with the woman be­ing cap­tured on Ea­gle Point Road, a dead end, in Derby.

Forty-six year old Kim­berly Saun­ders faces charges of at­tempt­ing to elude po­lice, ag­gra­vated as­sault, pos­ses­sion of mar­i­juana and driv­ing while un­der the in­flu­ence. Fed­eral charges re­sult­ing from the in­ves­ti­ga­tion with U. S. Cus­toms and Bor­der Pro­tec­tion may also en­sue.

She re­mains in cus­tody at the North­ern State Cor­rec­tional Fa­cil­ity in Newport.
