Easter Gospel Choir a Success
A musical celebration of Easter took place on Good Friday at local seniors residence, Manoir Stanstead. The evangelical, Protestant church, Lumière des Nations, headed by pastor Matthieu Anku, offered a non-denominational Easter concert to Stanstead’s citizens last Friday. Details of the event were covered in the March 28th edition of the Stanstead Journal, where an invitation to the public was extended by Anku. The concert featured 4 multi-cultural gospel singing groups, a children’s choral group and an adolescent gospel-hip hop dance group. The public turned out in large numbers for the event, with approximately 200 to 250 guests in attendance. Although numerous residents of Manoir Stanstead were present, the choral performance was also well attended by young adults and families, some of whom travelled from Sherbrooke to take part.
The concert lasted for approximately one and a half hours, consisted of lively, gospel hymns and soft melodies, and was performed in both English and French. After the performance a light meal was served while the performers mingled with guests. Pastor Anku mingled amongst attendees before publicly offering his thanks to both singers and guests. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit Stanstead and to celebrate Easter with local residents. His address ended with a brief prayer and blessing. Many of those in attendance expressed their appreciation to the church for organizing the event, claiming it has been some time since they experienced an Easter choir performance. Many complimented the choral performers, most especially the children singers, claiming it was enjoyable hearing such talented children sing. The seniors expressed pleasure in watching the children perform, enjoying their presence at the residence. Rachel Gauthier, Communications Coordinator for the church, also expressed pleasure at the opportunity to bring this event to Stanstead. She claims the event was a great success, had a good turn out, and the appreciation expressed by guests was very heart warming.
Over two hundred people attended last Friday’s non-denominational celebration at the Chapel of the Manoir Stanstead.
Several choirs from the Sherbrooke area sang during the event.
