Bronze medals for Roy

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS -

Wheelchairathlete Diane Roy won a bronze medal at the London Marathon, just six days after winning a bronze medal at the Boston Marathon. Ms. Roy had a time of 1:53:05, just one second behind second place finisher Wakako Tsuchida from Japan. Britain’s Shelley Woods finished first with a time of 1:49:10. “It was a little cold but there was no rain. We were beside each other for the first fifteen to twenty kilometres, however, Shelley Woods was stronger on the climbs and in the end I couldn’t catch her,” commented Ms. Roy.

On Saturday the athletes visited the marathon course for the upcoming London Olympic Games. For the first time in history, that course will not finish in the stadium but in front of Buckingham Palace. Besides that, the course was deemed in need of modification to make it safer for the racers.
