Stanstead Journal - - FRONT PAGE - Victoria Vanier

This Saturday evening, the Canada/usa Bridge Group is holding its end of season Bridge Party at Stanstead’s Centenary United Church. There are already six tables of Bridge and two tables of Five Hundred reserved, however, there is still room for one or two more tables of bridge is there is a foursome out there who would like to take part. The modest fee to enter includes desserts, tea and coffee and the chance to win door prizes. Prizes will also be given out to the group members with the highest bridge scores.

The Bridge party this Saturday is not only the season finale until the games start up again in September, it is also a final fundraiser of the season. Following the party, all the money collected during the regular season (it costs members $2 each time they play) and the entrance fee collected this Saturday, after expenses, will be donated to the CAB RH Rediker’s Children’s Program.

“We now have seven teams in the club but it would be nice to have about ten. We’re a very congenial group who is anxious for new members,” mentioned member Jean Harris. Members of the group come from Stanstead, Vermont, Ayer’s Cliff, Georgeville and North Hatley and they take turns playing in each other’s homes, organizing their own bridge afternoons or evenings amongst the different teams. “We’re very flexible like that. People can play any day of the week or on the weekend, daytime or evening. It’s whatever the teams arrange between themselves,” explained Mrs. Harris.

Although it is preferable if people join the group in pairs to keep the numbers even, they do try to team up single people who would like to join. For more information about this Saturday’s party or about joining the club, call Jean Harris at 819 8765937.
