Stanstead Mar­ket Opens Sun­day

TheS­tanstead Pub­lic Mar­ket will open for the sea­son, this Sun­day, with a wide va­ri­ety of prod­ucts of­fered by more than twenty ven­dors on the beau­ti­ful grounds of Stanstead Col­lege. “We’ll be sell­ing straw­berry short­cakes at the opener as a lit­tle fundraiser for the mar­ket,” said Bev Good­sell who or­ga­nizes the mar­ket along with Eva Juul, Marika Par­enteau, Har­vey Stevens, Michel Vail­lant and Nor­man Vigneau. Fid­dler Olivier Adoue will also be on hand to add to the spe­cial at­mos­phere of an out­door mar­ket. “We try to have a mu­si­cian come ev­ery week,” added Mrs. Good­sell.

A re­ally wide va­ri­ety of prod­ucts are of­fered at this mar­ket. To tempt the palate (and fill up a picnic bas­ket) there are home-made samosas, smoked salmon prod­ucts, jams and jel­lies, honey, sour­dough bread, French bak­ery prod­ucts, or­ganic bev­er­ages and baked goods, or­ganic farm pro­duce, bi­son sausages and straw­ber­ries. “We’ll even have home-made pasta this year,” Mrs. Good­sell men­tioned.

Be­sides the de­li­cious food, there will also be sev­eral ar­ti­sans sell­ing their wares: jew­ellery, stained glass, bath salts, hand-made cards, those dec­o­ra­tive sewn muffins and cakes and im­ported clothes and jew­ellery.

Shop­pers can park on Duf­ferin Street in front of the Col­lege and en­ter the grounds through the main gate to find the mar­ket.
