Summer art gallery opens
Ye Olde Blacksmith Art Gallery in Stanstead is opening its doors for the summer season on Thursday, June 21 with an unusual show entitled “Memories and Memphre” featuring works from talented local artist, Tanya McIntyre, old photographs of the Stanstead area from the Merrick Belknap collection and an eclectic mixture of artworks representing various artists’ vision of our famous Lake Memphremagog monster.
A vernissage with refreshments to celebrate the first show will be held Friday, June 22, from 5-7 pm. All are welcome.
As the name implies, the gallery is a former blacksmith shop. Nestled on the banks of the Tomifobia river just behind Checkpoint Charlie’s Bistro Bar in the downtown Rock Island sector, the building’s simple setting and rustic interior possesses a unique charm that’s very popular with the tourists who are captivated by its overall simplicity which manages to showcase the works of art to perfection for each and every show. Also on hand are handcrafted articles for sale, such as jewelry, pottery, walking sticks, stone circle t-shirts and postcards.
The gallery hours are Thursday – Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the show runs from June 21 to July 8th. Be sure to stop in for a visit soon! For more information call 819 876 2282.
