Imaged Perspective to open at the MAC
It’sbeen months in the planning, organizing and installation of the upcoming summer-long exhibit at the MAC Center for the Arts on Main Street, Newport. The result will open for its two month run on Friday, July 6th at a special opening reception at the center from 5-8 p.m..
Jim McKimm, MAC President and exhibit coordinator/designer sought out and received a great deal of assistance from Roger Cartee, Don Whipple, Liz Nelson from the Old Stone House, Barbara Malloy from the Memphremagog Historical Society of Newport and Jennifer Hopkins
In addition, a call for artists resulted in over 40 ‘new’ paintings and photographs depicting scenes in Newport.
The exhibit features 47 photos from the Richardson/Cartee Collection. Harry Wendell Richardson made photo postcards out of his shop in Newport starting in 1918 with most of them being photos from northern Vermont. Roger Cartee, former owner and publisher of the Newport Daily Express acquired the almost 9,000 negatives for the photos. Photographer Don Whipple and his staff have digitized the collection which is stored at the Old Stone House Museum and supplied the oversized prints for the exhibit. Roger Cartee will be on hand to discuss the collection.
Postcards from the Alexander Collection at the Old Stone House and private collection of Jennifer Hopkins were enlarged and hung with the new works created by MAC artists.
Vintage clothing from the Palin/Lindsey Collection, as well as memorabilia pieces were made available through Barbara Malloy, President of the Memphremagog Historical Society of Newport.
Available for purchase will be the official exhibit poster which features several old postcards and new works by MAC members Mary Brenner, Ann Lisner and Nicole Warner. A poster, signed by the artists will be given as a door prize for those attending the opening.
