American joins in

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM -

Flag bearers were Warren Robinson, Muriel Martin, Lorne Waide, Joshua Bowen and a guest officer from the United States. Also marching with the flag bearers were Branch 128’s president, Susan Fletcher-Doust, WW II Veteran Dr. David Doust, Branch 128 vice president Brigadier-General Robin Gagnon (ret’d) and Brigadier General Pol Bergevin of the 22nd Regiment.

This reporter was witness to the unexpected exchange that led to one of the flags being carried by an American. As Ayer’s Cliff Legion members got ready to march in the parade, one member was approached by a middle-aged American man in a uniform who introduced himself saying: “I read about your Legion marching in this parade and I would be honoured if I could march with you.” The rest, as they say, is history.
