St. Laurent Puts On Its Sunday Best Trio Contrass
On Sunday, August 12 at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., the Louis S. St. Laurent National Historic Site will present a concert of traditional music from Quebec, Scotland and Ireland with Frank Sears, Lise Beauchemin and Sébastien Deshaies. This event is presented in collaboration with the Louis S. St. Laurent National Historic Site’s Companions.
The trio, composed of Frank Sears on accordion and piano, Lise Beauchemin on violin and piano and Sébastien Deshaies on guitar and violin, performs music from its traditional repertoire and arrangements inspired by swing music from the thirties and the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. The three musicians also play their own compositions that combine traditional rhythms and innovative harmonies.
Visitors are invited to enjoy a picnic on this special day in the St. Laurent family’s magnificent garden. The summer program St.Laurent puts on its Sunday Best will continue until August 26, 2012. The activities will take place come rain or shine. For more information, visit www.parkscanada.gc.ca/stlaurent.
The site is open to the public every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are invited to discover rural life in the early 20th century by browsing through the family’s general store and the birthplace of the former Canadian Prime Minister (1948-1957). There will also be a multimedia presentation showing a century of Canadian history.
