Hockey souvenirs needed
Within the next few weeks, Stanstead College will be installing two very large display cases in the entranceway of the Pat Burns Arena. One will feature memorabilia from Pat Burn’s historic career in hockey, created with items that Mrs. Line Burns is loaning to the College. The second case will feature items that ‘tell the story’ of hockey in the ‘Three Villages’ over the decades. “We will install the cases on either side of the Donor Wall. They will be very large – about eight feet wide,” explained Helene Hamel, of Stanstead College.
To create this special display case, the College is looking for donations or loans of articles, from residents in the area, related to the days of hockey.
Ms. Hamel had some suggestions about the kinds of items they are looking for: “I know there are many team photos in people’s collections. These are great but we would need to have the date, name of team and players, if possible, to be able to display the pictures. We do not want the case to be only team photos; if people have other items like Howie Meeker memorabilia, special pucks or sticks, trophies etc… We don’t have room for more than one or two hockey jerseys.”
Some of the items for this special display case can also be about other activities that took place at one of the area’s many arenas or rinks (Channel, old barn, etc.).
Because the exhibit of local memorabilia in the display case will be semipermanent, the items will not be changed very often, so people must be willing to loan their items for between one and three years. Anything that is submitted that is not used in the display case would be returned to its owner quickly.
So start looking through those old boxes and family chests for your little ‘pieces of history’ – time is running out! “We would like the cases to be complete by the time the Radio
Canada film crew comes to town to film “La Petite Seduction” on September 21st. We’re hoping they’ll want to swing by the arena to film a few scenes,” added Ms. Hamel.
People who have something to donate should email Helene Hamel at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at the College at 819-8767891 ext 227 on or before September 12th.
