Abortion; Jean Rousseau Voted Against Conservative Motion

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS -

New Democrat MP Jean Rousseau (Compton-Stanstead) voted against motion M-312 to reopen the abortion debate, yesterday in the House of Commons.

All New Democrat MPs rejected the backward motion. “I am proud to stand alongside women in the fight for equality for all,” said Rousseau.

Motion M-312 called for the creation of a special House of Commons committee to study the definition of human being in the Criminal Code, which is an underhanded way of reopening the abortion debate. New Democrats have always fought for gender equality and constantly defended women’s right to abortion.

91 MPs, including the Minister for the Status of Women Rona Ambrose, supported the motion.
