TheSherbrooke Fire Department will be busy this week, sensitizing the population about fire prevention. Members of the department will be visiting child Day Care centres, familiarising the children with the work of firefighters. They will be accompanied by their new mascot, Yvon Larosé, who comes right out of the pages of a coloring book that has been used for a few years to teach children about fire safety.

Fire inspectors will also be at some of the big Sherbrooke retail outlets such as Costco, Walmart, Home Depot and the Canadian Tire stores in Fleurimont and at Plateau St. Joseph, to talk with the public.

This year’s fire prevention theme is “Have two ways out!” and people are being encouraged to take part in the “great escape” which will take place on Wednesday, October 10th, at 7:00 pm all over Quebec. The public is being asked by the Department of Public Security to carry out a fire escape exercise with their families.
