Gypsies still persecuted in Europe
they are part of the Roma minority who are subject to abuse in every country in Europe. Also called Gypsies, even France, with its tradition of welcoming all immigrants, has been taking measures against them lately.
The European Community has gone as far as having a Decade of Roma Inclusion declared in 2005 to combat the racism that the Roma are subjected to, not only in Romania but in neighbouring countries. Canada went as far, in 2008, as to send then Governor General Michaelle Jean to Hungary to convey Canada’s concerns regarding the issue.
