Stanstead Journal - - SPORTS - Lennoxville, Sherbrooke

TheBishop’s Gaiters men’s basketball squad has been impressive in the pre-season to date. They will put their 4-2 exhibition record on the line on Wednesday, October 17 when the Trinity Western Spartans visit Mitchell Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

The Gaiters and Spartans met on October 6 in Langley, British Columbia in the final game of a three game western road swing for Bishop’s. The Gaiters came out on top by a final score of 88-81. The purple and white had six players in double figures led by Jeremy Leonard-Smith’s (Ottawa) 14 points and 12 rebounds. Tim Hunter (Baie D’Urfe, Quebec) also scored 14.

Bishop’s has four wins over formidable opponents this year including the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 13-9 a year ago, the University of Victoria Vikings, 14-4 a season ago, the American International College Yellow Jackets of the Northeast-10 conference (NCAA Division II) and the Spartans, 10-8 last year.

“We have good team chemistry this year. Guys are accepting their roles, trusting each other and playing unselfishly,” said Gaiters bench boss Rod Gilpin. “Everyone has worked really hard in September both on the court and conditioning. It allows us to play hard the whole game.”

“Trinity Western is a dangerous team, they are athletic and skilled. They have lots of individual talent. In B.C. it was a game of runs and we were fortunate to have ours at the right time.”

Tip- off tonight Wednesday between the Gaiters and Spartans is at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Gymnasium.
