Border Curling Club holds Emerson Humphries Memorial Funspiel
Thisweek end a Bonspiel in memory of Emerson Humphries was held at the Border Curling Club in Stanstead. Emerson Humphries was a long-time resident of Newport. In 1955 Emerson was part of a group of American and Canadians who established the Border Curling Club in Stanstead. When Emerson passed away in 2002, a Bonspiel was established to honor the work he did to create a wonderful sporting facility open to people of both countries. The rules for this week event require 1 new player per team, and this year the winning team included Larry Landers on the ice for his first time. Larry and his wife Melanie have recently moved to Newport and have decided to learn to curl and enjoy the fun at the club.
