Magog event closes local marathon season
Thefirst season of the Manoir des Sables – CourirEnEstrie race circuit ended with the Magog Marathon and the participation of 2,520 runners. Winners of the marathon were Alister Gardner, for the men, with a time of 2:40:51 and Marie-Renee Dial who won the women’s competition with a time of 3:40:19.
“I tip my hat to the 150 volunteers who made this event possible,” said CourirEnEstrie circuit director, Patrick Mahoney.
In all, almost 4000 people registered for the five circuit races this year. “Besides the number of runners, what gives me even more pleasure it that the circuit raised around $25,000 for different causes. For a first year that’s not too bad! And if other sponsors such as the Manoir des Sables decide to join us, we can do even more,” he added.
This year the circuit raised money for the Fondation du Triolet, the Club d’Athletisme de Sherbrooke, the Quebec Cancer Foundation, Lou Gehrig’s Disease and the Memphremagog Hospital Foundation.
A new race will be added to next year’s circuit: the Mother’s day half marathon of North Hatley which will be held on May 12th, 2013. That race will be followed by a brunch prepared by Dominic Tremblay of Café Massawippi.
