Bishop’s Men’s Bas­ket­ball Claims Tour­na­ment

TheBishop’s Gaiters men’s bas­ket­ball team was in the na­tion’s cap­i­tal on Oc­to­ber 26th – 27th at the Jack Don­ahue Tour­na­ment. They posted a 2-0 record and came away as tour­na­ment cham­pi­ons.

On Fri­day the Gaiters tipped off against the Ot­tawa Gee-Gees. Bishop’s trailed 43-26 at the half but mounted a strong come­back and went onto win 64-63. “Ot­tawa is an of­fen­sively tal­ented team and we held them to 20 points in the sec­ond half. We played hard ev­ery pos­ses­sion and our man to man de­fense was ex­cel­lent.”

On­nex Black­wood led the Gaiters on Fri­day night with 18 points. Satur­day the Gaiters handed the Univer­sity of Toronto Var­sity Blues their first loss against CIS com­pe­ti­tion this year. Bishop’s tri­umphed 81-76 on the back of Hunter who scored 30 points and grabbed eight re­bounds. The Gaiters are back in ac­tion for their fi­nal pre-sea­son test on Fri­day, Novem­ber 2nd as they travel to Lyn­don, Ver­mont to take on the Lyn­don State Col­lege Hor­nets of the NCAA division III. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stan­nard Gym­na­sium.
