OnMonday, Premier Pauline Marois and the Minister of the Family, Nicole Leger, announced the creation of 28,000 new $7 a day daycare spots between now and the end of 2016. This will be done in two phases. First, a green light has been given to create 13,000 places immediately from projects applied for in 2011 and recommended by the regional committees. In the second phase, the government will launch a new call for projects to create 15,000 more spaces. These requests will have to be made to the government before the end of June 2013. The 22 regional consultative committees will analyse those projects and recommend those that correspond most with the needs of the population. According to the government, the 28,000 new spaces will be created within four years.

In the Estrie region, 581 new spaces have been created: 320 in Sherbrooke; 99 in Magog; 50 in Coaticook; 60 in St. Denis de Brompton; 21 in St. Romain; 13 in La Patrie; 13 in East Angus; and 5 in Ascot Corner.
