Video of Afghanistan shown

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM -

Mr. Phendler played guitar. Ms. Grey’s 5/6 class presented an interesting video, entitled “Tribute to our Canadian Soldiers” that they got off the internet for the audience. Images of modern war and peacekeeping scenes from Afghanistan seemed to captivate the special guests as much as the students.

During a brief question period, most of the student’s questions were aimed at RCMP Corporal Russell Sangster who was dressed in the official Mountie uniform. Students wanted to know if he had a horse, if he had a shield and if he had guns. “I wear a bulletproof vest which is like a shield,” he answered carefully.

Following the ceremony, after the guests had told the students that they had been well-behaved and respectful during the solemn event, and he was right.

The special guests who attended Sunnyside’s Remembrance Ceremony, seen here with Principal Steve Weary at the far right, were (l. to r.) piper Andrew Blair, Director of Academics for Stanstead College; Legion president David Woodard; RCMP Corporal Russell Sangster II veteran and vice-president of the Stanstead Legion, Captain Donald Taylor; and Major Chris Galvin of the Sherbrooke Hussars.
