Emotions on display at Beaulne

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Coaticook

TheBeaulne Museum of Coaticook is pleased to present the exhibition Human Facettes by artist painter Annie Pettigrew, from 18 November to 27 January 2013. The opening will take place on Sunday 18 November at 2 p.m. The public and press are cordially invited.

After obtaining her degree in Interior Design at Cégep du Vieux-Montreal, Annie Pettigrew settled in the Sherbrooke area where she lives and works since 2001. Having always had an attraction to the arts since childhood, her passion grew when she landed a position as a framer at Omer DeSerres. Her job allowed her to revel in the great world of art, to meet artists and to interact directly with the material. As a selftaught artist, she explored several techniques and mediums and participated in several symposia over the years.

Annie Pettigrew worked for several years with acrylic paint but felt the need to return to base by just integrating the drawing on canvas. She added other mediums including graphite and modeling paste. She uses a palette of cool colors, transparently, so that the subject dominates rather than the color.

In her work, she focuses on a fundamental aspect of human being: emotions. As much those generated by her work as those felt by the observer. Emotions are at the heart of her artistic approach. The creation of her works led her to reflect upon herself, to release emotions that words are sometimes unable to. Several subjects stimulate her interest, but the one she is most passionate about is the human face.

She presents her first solo exhibition: Human Facettes. A series of portraits fragmented in different ways referring to various aspects of life: an emotion, a phase of life, faces in search of inwardness, stripped of any environment that offers a unique encounter with the observer, time out to elicit some kind of internal emotion or reaction.
