WBB: Gaiters Fall To Laval In Last Home Game Of Se­mes­ter

TheBishop’s Gaiters women’s bas­ket­ball team fell 80-47 to the Laval Rouge et Or last Satur­day. Gaiters trailed the en­tire game but were within strik­ing dis­tance at the half. Laval went onto outscore Bishop’s 44-19 af­ter the break as they cruised to vic­tory.

The Gaiters (0-2) got off to a slow start. They spot­ted Laval (1-3) a 10-0 lead to open the game be­fore start­ing to climb their way out of the hole. The Gaiters Sab­rina As­selin (Re­pentigny, Que­bec) knocked down a three pointer as time ex­pired in the first quar­ter cut­ting Laval’s lead to 22-16.

Bishop’s was able to get within four points early in the sec­ond frame be­fore Laval started to pull away thanks in part to some key of­fen­sive re­bounds and sec­ond chance points. The Gaiters tried to make runs but Laval seemed to have an an­swer each time. Bishop’s trailed 36-28 at half­time.

Laval came out of the break on fire. They scored 19 third quar­ter points to the Gaiters nine and grabbed con­trol of the con­test. In the fourth quar­ter it was much of the same as Laval outscored the hosts 25-10 en route to an 80-47 vic­tory.

The Gaiters were once again led by Gabrielle Chamberland (Sher­brooke, Que­bec) who scored 18 points and grabbed seven re­bounds. As­selin fin­ished with a solid 13 points and 12 re­bounds off the bench.

As a team Laval shot 43.1 per­cent from the floor to the Gaiters 24.6 per­cent. The Rouge et Or also at­tempted 15 more shots than Bishop’s and had six fewer turnovers.

The Gaiters will now look ahead to their last game of the se­mes­ter. They play the McGill Martlets (1-2) in Mon­treal on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 29th. Tipoff is sched­uled for 6 p.m. at Love Com­pe­ti­tion Hall. Get all of your Bishop’s sports in­for­ma­tion at www. gaiters.ca.
