TheBishop’s University Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce that basketball players Scott Ring and Sabrina Asselin are the Provigo Robert Lafond Athletes of the Week. Both basketball teams closed out the home portion of their first semester schedule last Saturday against Laval.

Ring, a third year business student from the nation’s capital led the Gaiters on Saturday night in their 74-58 victory over the Laval Rouge et Or. He scored 23 points and added seven assists and three steals from the point guard position. His biggest shot came in the form of a buzzer beating three pointer to close out the first half as the Rouge et Or appeared to be grabbing some momentum. The floor general raised the tempo of the game every chance that he got, a plan that benefited the Gaiters in the early stages. “Scott Ring was fantastic,” said Gaiters head coach Rod Gilpin.

Asselin, a first year sports studies student from Repentigny, Quebec played her best game in the purple and silver on Saturday night. She scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds off the bench in the Gaiters 80-47 loss to the Laval Rouge et Or. In 20 minutes of play, she shot 50 percent from the floor including a buzzer beating three pointer as the first quarter came to a close.

Both Ring and Asselin will be back in action on Thursday, November 29th as they take on McGill in Montreal. The Lady Gaiters (0-2) and Martlets (1-2) will tipoff at 6 p.m. while the Gaiters men (1-1) will tipoff against the No.4 ranked Redmen (3-0) at 8 p.m. Both games take place in Love Competition Hall.
