Third Annual Eli Goss Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament
The third annual Scholarship Benefit Ice Fishing Tournament will be held February 9-10 on Lake Seymour, in Morgan. The tournament begins at midnight on Friday night. Participants may register on Saturday 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the public beach fishing access.
The tournament is in memory of Eli Goss, who was a senior at United Christian Academy (UCA) when he passed away in a motor vehicle accident on September 17, 2010 on the Gore Rd. in Morgan, VT. It is organized by the Student Forum at North Country Union High School (NCUHS).
Eli is remembered for his many friendships that built a bridge between UCA and NCUHS, and in many ways helped to break down social walls and encourage support between the two schools. 100% of all donations to the Eli Goss Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament and Scholarship Fund go directly to Scholarships supporting the pursuit of career goals of graduating seniors at both UCA and NCUHS. It is the only Scholarship Fund of its kind in our area, created and managed by students, faculty and friends at both UCA and NCUHS.
Prizes will be awarded for biggest fish and most donations raised. The first prize winner will receive a cash prize and the top three winners will receive the much sought after bomber hats embroidered with the 2013 Eli Tournament logo.
Last year the tournament contributed over $1100 to the Eli Goss Memorial Scholarship Fund. In total, the Eli Fund awarded six scholarships in 2012 to students at UCA and NCUHS. This was an increase from the three scholarships awarded in 2011. This amount includes kind donations from members of the community. Students and friends of Eli Goss are excited about the 2013 tournament and surpassing last year’s totals once again!
UCA parents and students have also been raising funds throughout the
year for the scholarship fund in memory of their varsity soccer and basketball player Eli Goss.
“Caring about students with heart…” The Eli mission is to expand Scholarship opportunities to include students who did the work, balanced academics, sports, friends and family and may not necessarily have a high GPA, but were courageous in their attempt and caring in their relationships.
