The Coaticook Sureté du Quebec is investigating a series of incidents of vandalism which were committed over the weekend in Laurence Park. The suspects broke equipment and put up graffiti in several places. Anyone with information is being asked to call the Coaticook SQ post at 819 849-4813. The police would also like people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour going on in the park.

On Saturday night, around 10:00 pm, a citizen called the police to report the ‘shady’ behaviour of two individuals who were poking around a car and who then left in another car. Thanks to the description given to the police, the suspicious individuals and their vehicle were located in downtown Coaticook. The police then arrested the driver for breaking bail conditions; he had a curfew. The police found several objects in the vehicle that had just been stolen from three cars and proceeded to arrest the two suspects for stealing. The conductor, Denis Lussier of Granby, was formally charged with breaking bail conditions and the theft of $5000. The passenger was released and will appear later in court.

The Sureté du Quebec of the Coaticook MRC would like to highlight the vigilance and involvement of citizens. In the last few months, several interventions by the public have led to the arrest of suspects; it is an effective collaboration between the police and the residents of the MRC.

Drivers are being reminded, once again, to lock the doors of their vehicles. The thefts committed over the weekend occurred in vehicles that were not locked. After proceeding with several operations to make people aware about the importance of locking their car doors, the police have begun to give out fines in parking lots in Coaticook.
