Intense cold hits region

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM -

With the announcement of temperatures reaching as low as -38 Celsius for the next few days, the health and social service Agency ( Direction de santé publique de l’Estrie) has issued some recommendations for people to follow. They should avoid going outside for periods of time that could cause a major loss of body heat as well as other health risks such as hypothermia, frostbite or the aggravation of cardiovascular or pulmonary chronic illnesses. It is also recommended to keep children indoors when the temperature is -25 C (-13 F) or colder.

The DSP Estrie also recommends the following: wear proper clothing, including hats and mittens; stay inside whenever possible; children, seniors and those suffering from a chronic illness should stay inside; keep an eye on heating systems, especially wood stoves or gas heaters.
