Torch Relay: Celebrations on February 1, 2, & 3
Asthe Canada Games approach, Sherbrooke 2013 organizers are preparing to enter a new phase: the start of the Torch Relay. This journey lasting almost six months will take the Games team, Zigzag, and the torch to the four corners of Quebec. A total of 40 cities and towns that have hosted the Jeux du Québec will be visited. Celebrations will take place in Ottawa, Magog, Sherbrooke, and Coaticook beginning February 1. Everyone is invited to take part in the festivities!
The Host Society is also proud to announce financial support from Québec en forme, Signature Partner of the Games. Eric Myles, Executive Director of the organization, explained the importance of this event.
“For us, the Torch Relay is an opportunity to rally decision makers, parents, and young people from the communities being visited around this event that promotes sport and
healthy lifestyles. This Relay will increase awareness of the Games, motivate, support, and highlight the work of local communities that are already active in the various regions of Quebec. We are certain that the messages conveyed will help promote social norms that put healthy lifestyles at the forefront.”
Festivities surrounding the Relay begin on February 1 with the lighting of the torch at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. There will be a live Webcast of the event at canadagames.tv.
On February 2 and 3, celebrations will take place in Magog, Sherbrooke, and Coaticook giving young and old the opportunity to be among the first to see the Games torch. On the program: entertainment, symbolic torch relay, protocol ceremony, photo session with the torch, and of course, the opportunity to meet Zigzag!
