Torch Re­lay: Cel­e­bra­tions on Fe­bru­ary 1, 2, & 3

As­the Canada Games ap­proach, Sher­brooke 2013 or­ga­niz­ers are pre­par­ing to en­ter a new phase: the start of the Torch Re­lay. This jour­ney last­ing al­most six months will take the Games team, Zigzag, and the torch to the four cor­ners of Que­bec. A to­tal of 40 cities and towns that have hosted the Jeux du Québec will be vis­ited. Cel­e­bra­tions will take place in Ot­tawa, Ma­gog, Sher­brooke, and Coat­i­cook be­gin­ning Fe­bru­ary 1. Ev­ery­one is in­vited to take part in the fes­tiv­i­ties!

The Host So­ci­ety is also proud to an­nounce fi­nan­cial sup­port from Québec en forme, Sig­na­ture Part­ner of the Games. Eric Myles, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of the or­ga­ni­za­tion, ex­plained the im­por­tance of this event.

“For us, the Torch Re­lay is an op­por­tu­nity to rally de­ci­sion mak­ers, par­ents, and young peo­ple from the com­mu­ni­ties be­ing vis­ited around this event that pro­motes sport and

healthy life­styles. This Re­lay will in­crease aware­ness of the Games, mo­ti­vate, sup­port, and high­light the work of lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties that are al­ready ac­tive in the var­i­ous re­gions of Que­bec. We are cer­tain that the mes­sages con­veyed will help pro­mote so­cial norms that put healthy life­styles at the fore­front.”

Fes­tiv­i­ties sur­round­ing the Re­lay be­gin on Fe­bru­ary 1 with the light­ing of the torch at Par­lia­ment Hill in Ot­tawa. There will be a live We­b­cast of the event at

On Fe­bru­ary 2 and 3, cel­e­bra­tions will take place in Ma­gog, Sher­brooke, and Coat­i­cook giv­ing young and old the op­por­tu­nity to be among the first to see the Games torch. On the pro­gram: en­ter­tain­ment, sym­bolic torch re­lay, pro­to­col cer­e­mony, photo ses­sion with the torch, and of course, the op­por­tu­nity to meet Zigzag!
