Gaiters And Citadins Split A Pair On The Hard­wood

TheBishop’s Univer­sity bas­ket­ball teams took to the court last Wed­nes­day night against UQAM in Mitchell Gym­na­sium. The women fell 60-43 while the men won 84-60 in com­mand­ing fash­ion.

Wed­nes­day’s Lady Gaiters game was con­trolled by a fierce UQAM team. The Gaiters kept up with the Citadins in the first quar­ter but UQAM dom­i­nated the sec­ond, outscor­ing the Gaiters 22-8 for a 31-20 half­time lead. The Gaiters even­tu­ally found their scor­ing touch in the fourth quar­ter win­ning it 14-7 and bring­ing the fi­nal score to 60-43. The foul situ- ation helped nei­ther team as there were 41 to­tal fouls called on the night.

Gabrielle Chamberland (Sher­brooke, Que­bec) was the Gaiters high scorer con­tribut­ing 10 points and mak­ing seven out of the Gaiters 13 free throws. Gaiters fresh­man Ha­ley Lewis (Ot­tawa) scored a strong seven points.

The Gaiters men’s bas­ket­ball team came out strong with nine unan­swered points. They con­tin­ued to dom­i­nate and took an 18 point lead at the half.

Bishop’s con­tin­ued to con­trol the pace tak­ing the third quar­ter 21-17 and the fourth 16-14 on their way to an 84-60 vic­tory.

The Gaiters out re­bound- ed UQAM 48-33 and had eight blocks to the Citadins two.

Mike An­drews (Oakville, On­tario) owned the court be­fore foul­ing out with 20 points, 13 re­bounds and four blocks. Jonathan Ber­millo (Mon­treal) added 18 to the Gaiters to­tal along with six re­bounds and five as­sists. Jamil Abiad (Ot­tawa) drained a pair of three point­ers on his way to scor­ing 10 points. For UQAM Alexan­dre Bernard (Gatineau, Que­bec) fin­ished with 16 points and seven re­bounds, while Philippe Tamba (Que­bec City) added 11 points and seven boards.

This was the third time the Gaiters and UQAM faced each other this year. The Gaiters win brings the se­ries to 3-0 in favour of them.
