Gaiters Host Laval In Fi­nal Reg­u­lar Sea­son Home Games

TheBishop’s Gaiters men’s and women’s bas­ket­ball teams will play their last home games of the reg­u­lar sea­son tonight Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 13th in Mitchell Gym­na­sium. The Laval Rouge et Or will be in town. The women will tipoff at 6 p.m. and the men will fol­low at 8 p.m.

The Bishop’s Gaiters women’s bas­ket­ball team (0-13) will be look­ing to get into the win col­umn tonight as they will play for the fi­nal time in Len­noxville this sea­son. The Laval Rouge et Or (5-7) are fight­ing for play­off po­si­tion­ing. In three games this sea­son the Laval has topped the Gaiters by scores of 75-50 and 50-46 in the pro­vin­cial cap­i­tal and 80-47 at Bishop’s be­fore Christ­mas.

Bishop’s leader is Gabrielle Chamberland (Sher­brooke, Que­bec) who is av­er­ag­ing 13.8 points per game, plac­ing her fifth in the province.

The Bishop’s Gaiters men (9-4) are tied for top spot in the RSEQ with the McGill Red­men (9-4). They will host the Laval Rouge et Or (3-9) who are cur­rently in a bat­tle for the fi­nal play­off spot with the UQAM Citadins (4-9). The Gaiters and Rouge et Or have played a cou­ple of mem­o­rable games to date with Bishop’s lead­ing the sea­son se­ries 2-1. The Gaiters topped Laval 74-58 in Novem­ber in Len­noxville and 68-65 in early Jan­uary in Que­bec. Laval stunned the Gaiters in Que­bec 69-67 later that month.

Mike An­drews (Oakville, On­tario) leads the pur­ple and sil­ver av­er­ag­ing 14.7 points per game. That puts him fifth in the province. He also has the top field goal per­cent­age in the league at 53.4 per­cent and is the best shot blocker with 29 on the year (2.2 per game). His 6.5 re­bounds per game put him in sixth in the con­fer­ence.

The Gaiters and Rouge et Or tipoff in Mitchell Gym­na­sium tonight start­ing with the women’s con­test at 6 p.m. The Bishop’s men will look to move into sole pos­ses­sion of top spot in the RSEQ when they put their three game win­ning streak on the line at 8 p.m.
