Nice, new service in town for women

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Victoria Vanier, Stanstead

There has been an interesting new service in place, in Stanstead, since last September which is slowly growing in popularity. The Centre des Femmes Memphremagog has been hosting a free, breakfast chat group, since September, at the Coop d’Habitation, 19 Colby-Curtis Street, every third Thursday morning of each month, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. “This group is for women eighteen and older, French and English, of all ages and regardless of their situation,” said Veronique Latulippe who animates the group along with Chantal Pinard.

Each month, the animators always have a new theme, the poverty of women was a recent one, which they bring to the group to discuss. However, the discussion, which is had over a free, continental breakfast, often evolves to include other topics that the women want to discuss. “It’s a sharing of experiences and we’re very open to new themes. We adapt our discussions to the women who come, especially since we don’t yet understand all the needs of the women in the community,” explained Ms. Latulippe.

“This group gives women a chance to meet other women, without being judged. It’s a completely confidential activity and the women don’t have to tell their life story there,” added the animator who encourages women to just come out for a nice breakfast and see if it’s a group they would like to join. The feedback from those who have been attending since September has been very good – they keep returning.

If you would like to attend tomorrow morning’s Dejeuner Causerie, call 819 868-0302 to register, today, or call and leave a message this evening, so the animators can bring enough food for everyone.
