Direction de santé publique de l’Estrie is inviting smokers to try to quit smoking with a contest : Quit to win! By registering, participants agree to quit smoking for at least six weeks, from March 1st to April 11th, 2013. Registration forms can be found at defitabac.ca until March 1st.
In the Estrie region, almost 29% of the population smokes compared to 21% in the rest of the province. In 2012, 872 citizens in this region took part in the Quit to win! contest. Because quitting smoking can be so difficult, people should not hesitate to use all the resources available to help them.
Dr. Roxane Neron, the spokesperson of the contest, said: “Quitting smoking is the most beneficial thing someone can do to improve their health. The contest proposes a number of free tools to help the smoker quit. On average, twelve months after contestants have quit, 20% still do not smoke. When people try to quit without any help, the success rate is only 3 to 5 %.
Participants will benefit not only from free support but also from the following free tools: a participant’s file at defitabac.ca; a series of encouraging emails; and a Jean Coutu help kit full of information and surprises, offered for free but in limited quantities at PJC pharmacies until April 11th.
By taking part in this contest, people get the chance to win prizes such as a trip to Punta Cana, graciously provided by Vacances Transat and Iberostar.
