Ogden mayor resigns
Joe Stairs, Ogden’s mayor since the last municipal elections in 2009 , handed in his letter of resignation to the town’s general manager, Renée Donaldson, and his fellow councilors on
“I have always believed in achieving our goals through teamwork, consensus building and shared responsibilities. However, teamwork means having and showing respect for those working with you. Achieving consensus means working towards the resolution that all can agree on and then living with that decision. Shared responsibilities means someone given the responsibility of taking a decision has the authority to do it.
The major cause for my present decision is that I have seen precious little of the above qualities demonstrated from some members of our council,” wrote Mr. Stairs in his letter. Also mentioned in the letter as a source of frustration was the inability of Mr. Stairs to “secure our employees even their basic cost of living increase and documentation of Ogden’s employment policy.”
Mr. Stairs was first elected to seat # 4 on the Ogden council in 2005. He was also the chair of Ogden’s Land Use Advisory Committee since its founding in 1988. With upcoming municipal elections in November of this year, a by-election will not be called.
