HeritageHigh School was crowned 2013 AAESQ Graham Neil Provincial Hockey champions Friday, defeating local team Bishop’s College School in the final at the Pat Burns Arena in Stanstead.
Heritage beat BCS 5-4 in overtime. Heritage had a 4-2 lead at one point before BCS tied the game in the final seconds with the goalie pulled. Heritage went on to score the winner in overtime.
Sean Campbell of Heritage was named tournament MVP, while individual team all-stars were goalie Rhys Davies for Stanstead College’s Junior Varsity Spartans, Nick Samson for Alexander Galt, Gabriel Aucoin for BCS, Ross Persons for Massey-Vanier, Tristan Sabatini for Heritage and Liam Rourke for Loyola Academy.
The Junior Varsity Spartans had a good run at the tournament, winning their first game in a comeback against Galt 5-4 and defeating Loyola 3-1 in game 2. In their semi-final game, the Spartans fell to Heritage 3-2 in overtime, and, in their third-place game lost 4-3 to Loyola.
Tournament namesake Graham Neil was on hand Friday to present the awards.
