OLes Gestes - - com­poser Sean Fer­gu­son take the di­a­logue be­tween dance and mu­sic to new heights. The stage is in­hab­ited by a unique string quar­tet, com­posed of two mu­si­cians and two dancers equipped with dig­i­tal mu­si­cal in­stru­ments molded to their bod­ies, pro­pel­ling them into a sen­sory en­counter be­tween tech­nol­ogy and tra­di­tion, a fu­sion of flesh and sound.

Ex­pect an un­com­mon sen­sory ex­pe­ri­ence that tran­scends bor­ders to cel­e­brate the com­bined pow­ers of mu­sic and dance. De­signed as ex­ten­sions to the hu­man body, th­ese mu­si­cal in­stru­ments re­act to changes in move­ment and to many other types of pa­ram­e­ters: pres­sure, heat, speed and dis­place­ment, etc. In the con­text of Les gestes, they al­low dancers and mu­si­cians to in­ter­act in real time with the mu­si­cal score of the chore­og­ra­phy. Th­ese cut­ting-edge in­stru­ments are the re­sult of re­search car­ried out at CIRMMT by the chore­og­ra­pher, the com­poser and the doc­toral re­searchers of the cen­ter.
