Scholarships Up For Grabs For Residents Of The Eastern Townships

Sherbrooke, March 18, 2013- This April, a local foundation dedicated to providing educational opportunities to Englishspeaking residents of the Townships will award three scholarships to deserving students.
The Lampe Foundation CFUW Sherbrooke & District is now accepting applications for the Marlis and Sigrid Wehr Mature Student Scholarship, which provides $1000 to help a woman in financial need return to postsecondary education at CEGEP, vocational school or university after a pause of at least 24 months.
The award honours the late Canadian Federation of University Woman member Marlis Wehr, and her mother Sigrid. A teacher and union President of the Eastern Townships Association of Teachers, and later the Personnel Director of the Eastern Townships Regional School Board, Marlis Wehr was dedicated to education and the advancement of women in the Townships after immigrating to the area in 1959.
The scholarship winner will be at least 21 years old and entering a program as a full-time student after a pause of at least 24 months. She will have lived in the Eastern Townships for the last three years or have graduated from a local high school.
These students have all won scholarships since May of 2012.
