Schol­ar­ships Up For Grabs For Res­i­dents Of The East­ern Town­ships

Doyou know some­one in your com­mu­nity who could ben­e­fit from $1000 to help them re­turn to school or con­tinue their stud­ies?

Sher­brooke, March 18, 2013- This April, a lo­cal foun­da­tion ded­i­cated to pro­vid­ing ed­u­ca­tional op­por­tu­ni­ties to English­s­peak­ing res­i­dents of the Town­ships will award three schol­ar­ships to de­serv­ing stu­dents.

The Lampe Foun­da­tion CFUW Sher­brooke & District is now ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for the Marlis and Si­grid Wehr Ma­ture Stu­dent Schol­ar­ship, which pro­vides $1000 to help a woman in fi­nan­cial need re­turn to post­sec­ondary ed­u­ca­tion at CEGEP, vocational school or univer­sity af­ter a pause of at least 24 months.

The award hon­ours the late Cana­dian Fed­er­a­tion of Univer­sity Woman mem­ber Marlis Wehr, and her mother Si­grid. A teacher and union Pres­i­dent of the East­ern Town­ships As­so­ci­a­tion of Teach­ers, and later the Per­son­nel Di­rec­tor of the East­ern Town­ships Re­gional School Board, Marlis Wehr was ded­i­cated to ed­u­ca­tion and the ad­vance­ment of women in the Town­ships af­ter im­mi­grat­ing to the area in 1959.

The schol­ar­ship win­ner will be at least 21 years old and en­ter­ing a pro­gram as a full-time stu­dent af­ter a pause of at least 24 months. She will have lived in the East­ern Town­ships for the last three years or have grad­u­ated from a lo­cal high school.
