Stanstead Journal - - SPORTS - Robert Fisk, Sherbrooke, Lennoxville

KassandraNaylor of the Bantam Girls Basketball team and Sam Wubbolts of the Bantam Boys Basketball team were named the Piper Athletes of the month for February.

Naylor is a grade eight student that helped her team win the ETIAC Championship and play big minutes in the tough RSEQ AA league. In four games the tall forward averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per game in the month of February. Coach Tracey Comeau said, “Kassandra is a hard worker in practice and has learned to apply this in games. Her game within the paint has become the key to our team.” The Compton resident is also a standout in the classroom with an 87% average and on the Principals List. Like most of her teammates, the North Hately grad will take her talent, work ethic and great attitude up the junior level next year where she has already been called up for a few games.

Wubbolts is also a grade eight student athlete that helped lead his team to an 8-1 record in the month of February, including an ETIAC Championship and a silver medal in the RSEQ play offs. The thirteen-year old forward averaged 13 points per game and led his team in assists and rebounds. Coach Caleb Page said, “Sam is a determined and focused leader on the court as he will dive for loose balls, guard the opposing teams top scorer and demonstrate great sportsmanship as he scores big points in critical parts of the game.” Off the court, the three-sport student athlete is also on the Principals List with a 94% average.
