April Classes At The Old Stone House Museum
Nowthat the snow is melting and the sun is feeling warmer, The Old Stone House Museum is offering some classes for everyone eager to get outside this Spring. Apple Grafting and Pruning will take place on Saturday, April 13, from 10 am to 3 pm.
Author of will guide participants through the grafting and pruning process in this hands-on workshop. He will bring hearty root stocks and scions from his trees for the morning grafting workshop, and in the afternoon, he will demonstrate pruning on the Museum’s trees, discuss tree health and supplies. Students are encouraged to bring scions from their favorite ancient trees and will graft at least two trees to bring home. Please bring a lunch and dress for the outdoors. Cost for the class is $50/40 for Museum Members. Please register early for this popular class.
Beginning Blacksmithing, make a Fireplace Poker will take place at the Museum’s Forge on Saturday, April 20, from 10 am to 4 pm. will introduce basic forge techniques, safety, equipment, fires and timing. Students will complete a fireplace poker as they practice hammer blows, drawing out, twisting, leafwork and a simple weld. Cost is $75/65 for Museum Members, plus a $25 material fee. Please bring a lunch. Class size is limited, so please register by April 16. After this beginner class, students may attend the monthly “hammer-ins” to practice their skills. Advanced Blacksmithing courses will be offered later in Summer and Fall.
