April Classes At The Old Stone House Mu­seum

Nowthat the snow is melt­ing and the sun is feel­ing warmer, The Old Stone House Mu­seum is of­fer­ing some classes for ev­ery­one ea­ger to get out­side this Spring. Ap­ple Graft­ing and Prun­ing will take place on Satur­day, April 13, from 10 am to 3 pm.

Au­thor of will guide par­tic­i­pants through the graft­ing and prun­ing process in this hands-on work­shop. He will bring hearty root stocks and scions from his trees for the morn­ing graft­ing work­shop, and in the af­ter­noon, he will demon­strate prun­ing on the Mu­seum’s trees, dis­cuss tree health and sup­plies. Stu­dents are en­cour­aged to bring scions from their fa­vorite an­cient trees and will graft at least two trees to bring home. Please bring a lunch and dress for the out­doors. Cost for the class is $50/40 for Mu­seum Mem­bers. Please reg­is­ter early for this pop­u­lar class.

Be­gin­ning Black­smithing, make a Fire­place Poker will take place at the Mu­seum’s Forge on Satur­day, April 20, from 10 am to 4 pm. will in­tro­duce ba­sic forge tech­niques, safety, equip­ment, fires and tim­ing. Stu­dents will com­plete a fire­place poker as they prac­tice ham­mer blows, draw­ing out, twist­ing, leaf­work and a sim­ple weld. Cost is $75/65 for Mu­seum Mem­bers, plus a $25 ma­te­rial fee. Please bring a lunch. Class size is lim­ited, so please reg­is­ter by April 16. Af­ter this beginner class, stu­dents may at­tend the monthly “ham­mer-ins” to prac­tice their skills. Ad­vanced Black­smithing cour­ses will be of­fered later in Sum­mer and Fall.
