Sherbrooke supports Lennoxville bilingual status

Stanstead Journal - - FORUM - Victoria Vanier

Duringthe last Sherbrooke council meeting, council voted to support the Borough of Lennoxville in its wish to remain a bilingual community. The decision was taken because of the large number of Anglophones living in Lennoxville. Like the Sherbrooke wishes to keep the linguistic peace in the municipalities composed of Anglophones and francophones, while respecting the principle of municipal autonomy.

The City of Sherbrooke therefore asks the National Assembly to recognize that only a resolution of the Borough council concerned should remove a municipality’s bilingual status.
