Gagnon And Giddings Named Piper Athletes Of The Month
Gagnon of the Senior Girls Basketball team and Sean Giddings of the Junior Boys Basketball Team were named the Piper Athletes of the Month for March.
Gagnon is a grade 10 student that helped her team win the ETIAC Championship as well as the prestigious AAESQ Provincial Championship for the first time since 1990. The 15 year old also led her team to a bronze medal in the RSEQ AA league. In five games the point guard averaged 15 points per game and was the teams high scorer three times. The Principal List student made the jump to stardom when she scored 20 points in the second half of the Provincial Championship game in which she made five three pointers in a row to seal the crown for the Lady Pipers. Head coach Glen Faucher said, “Claudia is one of the best dribblers in both leagues (ETIAC and RSEQ) and no one is better at the pick and roll. She does it all. Her newfound confidence from outside the arc will make her a lethal player for the Pipers in 2013-14.” Gagnon along with 10 returning teammates will look to defend their pro-
vincial title next year.
Giddings is a Grade 9 student that played a leading role in helping his team qualify and compete for the Provincial Championships. In five games the Lennoxville native averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds during the most important part of the season. In the play in game in Quebec City Giddings slowed things down and hit some clutch free throws in front off a hostile crowd to propel his team to victory. The power forward demonstrated his versatility and poise in the Provincial semi final when he hit two clutch three pointers and a jump shot to help his team overcome an eight-point deficit with three minutes to play to earn a trip to the Championship game. Head coach Jarod Sharman said, “Sean showed great leadership down the stretch as he often guarded the other teams best player and still contributed offensively.” The Lennoxville Elementary grad will make the jump to the Senior level next year where he will push for a starting position and maintain his name on the Honour Roll List.
