Help light up local students

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS BRIEFS - Victoria Vanier Stanstead

ThisSaturday, local musician Mike Goudreau will do a benefit performance at La Vielle Douane restaurant, in Stanstead, to help encourage some very young performers in town. The restaurant, for its part, will donate $10 from every Table d’hote meal of $29.95 to Sunnyside Elementary School to buy lighting equipment for the school’s stage.

“I was at the Christmas show at the school and we could barely see the kids on stage. We were so disappointed with the lights,” commented the organizer of the fundraiser, Vincent Boudreau, who majored in Theatre at Concordia University and has a child going to the school.

The school needs about $800 to purchase good lighting equipment and the school’s principal, Steve Weary, has been able to come up with a few hundred dollars. “It’s important for kids to have the right environment to succeed in,” added Mr. Boudreau. “Next we’ll work on fixing the lights in the scoreboard in the gym.”

The event Lumieres sur nos futurs artistes will be held on April 20th, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Reservations can be made, and are recommended, by calling 819 876-2960.
