Roy makes come­back at his­toric marathon

Wheelchairath­lete Diane Roy, from Hat­ley, af­ter three months of in­ac­tiv­ity as a bone in her leg healed fol­low­ing a fall from her “ev­ery­day” wheel­chair and only two and a half months of train­ing, made her wheel­chair rac­ing come­back at the now his­toric 117th edi­tion of the Bos­ton Marathon on Mon­day. Ms. Roy fin­ished in sev­enth po­si­tion in her cat­e­gory with a time of 1 h 59 min 37 sec, a few hours be­fore two bombs went off at the fin­ish line, killing two peo­ple and in­jur­ing more than 170.

Sev­eral other run­ners from the Town­ships at­tended the marathon and none were in­jured. Jean-Paul Com­paoré, of Sher­brooke, fin­ished 16th with a time of 1 h 37 min 34 sec.
