New Border Fees ?

Canadians travelling to the US could face new tax

Stanstead Journal - - NEWS - Ottawa

A proposal from the American government could force Canadian travellers to pay to enter the United States, said New Democrats, who raised the issue in the House of Commons. The United States are considering charging Canadians a fee for crossing the border. “This tax will increase wait times and hurt cross-border trade,” said New Democrat MP Pierre Jacob (Brome-Missisquoi).

The thousands of snowbirds and all those who travel frequently or occasionally strongly oppose this proposal, said the NDP.

“The situation could seriously affect people who cross the border daily or weekly to visit family members living south of the border,” added Jean Rousseau (Compton-Stanstead). “That’s often the case in border towns like Stanstead.”
