“Come Shoot for a cure”
Thepopular “Shoot for a cure” dart tournament, which takes place at the Stanstead Legion this Saturday, will be one of this season’s last dart tournaments, being held a little later than usual this year. The tournament is organized annually by Marilyn McComb as a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society to fight breast cancer.
This is always a doubles tournament (401 Double in / Double out) and can be any combination of players: man/woman, man/ man or woman/woman. “People are confused about who they can have as a partner this time, but any combination is fine,” explained Mrs. McComb.
Besides the friendly but fierce competition at this tournament, there will also be many door prizes, raffles and ‘half and halfs’. “We receive a lot of gift certificates from businesses and many of them give us cheques for the Canadian Cancer Society,” commented the organizer who is always surprised and grateful for the generosity of her sponsors.
A daunting task, collecting door prizes and donations and figuring out how to attract a sizable crowd to the tournament, Marilyn, who gets help from her sister Elaine to do these things, admitted this might be her last tournament. “I’m thinking of hanging up my darts. It’s a big job to organize this and I’m not getting any younger.”
The tournament registration is at 1:00 pm and the games will begin at 2:00 pm. For more information call Mrs. McComb at 819 838-4770.
