At Bishop’s University
TheBishop’s Gaiters Department of Athletics and Recreation summer camp registration is underway. This year four different sport camps will be offered over four weeks during the summertime. Each camp will be led by one of the Gaiters coaches. The camps being offered include: football, basketball, soccer and golf.
The summer programing will get underway with football camp which is slated to take place from June 23-28. Led by Gaiters head coach Kevin Mackey, this camp is open for youngsters ages 10-17. The campers will be broken down into groups by age where they will get great hands on teaching from a variety of coaches from across the province from high school right up through the Cégep ranks. A number of Gaiter football players will also be involved during the week. Campers will have the option of spending the week in residence or attending as a day camper.
Next up is basketball camp led by Lady Gaiters bench boss Alex Perno. There will be two, one-week camps. The first is slated for June 30 - July 5 and the second from July 7-12. These camps are open to 10-17 year olds and will be limited to 50 campers each week. They promise hands on learning experience from another talented list of local coaches. Again both residential and day camp options are available.
New for the summer of 2013 is soccer camp. Phil Ribaux, the women’s soccer coach at Bishop’s along with his assistants and a few players will direct this camp which takes place from July 14-19. This will be open to 8-15 year olds who again have the option of residence or day camp. Everything from individual skills to becoming a better teammate will be covered; ensuring that everyone who attends will be a better soccer player at the end of the week.
The football, basketball and soccer camps each cost $275 for the week for a day camper and $550 for a residential camper.
Also this year there will be a golf day camp that will be overseen by the Gaiters golf team and coach Marty Rourke. It will take place from July 8-12 in collaboration with the Old Lennoxville Golf Course. Campers will learn the basics from etiquette to rules to fundamentals of the game. Those with more experience will be given the chance to improve their game and work on more precise skills. All campers will be able to experience some time on the course. This camp is open to 8-15 year olds and costs $205 for the week.
