North Hatley plans marathon for Mother’s Day
Thevillage of North Hatley will be hosting its first Mother’s Day half-marathon on Sunday, May 12th. The event will actually feature four races of varying lengths, 1 km, 5 km, 10 km and the 21.6 half marathon, so people of all ages and abilities can take part. “After the races we’ll have our Mother’s Day Brunch, catered by Café Massawippi, in a big tent that will be set up in River Park. People who aren’t in the races can also buy tickets just for the brunch,” said mayor Michael Page who hopes it turns into an annual event.
North Hatley should prove to be a nice location for the event which is organized by Courir en Estrie with 10% of the proceeds going to the North Hatley Recreation Society. “The half marathon route goes along Lake Road, by the golf course and by the Quebec Lodge; it is the scenic route, a combination of pavement and dirt road,” explained Mr. Page who plans to run in the event along with a few family members. “I hope to be ready for the half marathon but, worst case scenario, I’ll do the 10 k!”
About thirty more volunteers, to do things like direct traffic, refuel the runners and more, are needed for the marathon. Volunteers need to be at the site by 6:30 in the morning and should be finished up by noon. Anyone interested can contact Natacha Prince at the Town Hall at 819 842-2754 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
